Todd Dodge has returned to coaching High School football inTexas. Most fans outside of Texas will remember him for his unsuccessful tenure at North Texas and then being an assistant coach at Pitt. But for everyone in the State of Texas, Dodge is remembered for his incredibly successful tenure at South Lake Carol High School.
Todd Dodge has re-emerged at Marble Falls High inMarble Falls,TX, which is down in theTexas hill country off of Lake LBJ. It is a small 4-A school that hasn’t had any post season success in 20 years. If he is able to recreate any of the magic he delivered at Southlake, then Marble Falls will be a highly successful program in a short time.
Dodge was very upbeat and happy with the opportunity to return to his “roots” in high school football. He said he wasn’t the type to dream about big time success at the next level, and he only took the opportunity to challenge himself. Dodge is very happy being more of a teacher and less of a babysitter, and even said “he enjoys the teaching aspect in high school, that he didn’t get to do at the college level.”
Undoubtedly the news of his return to the high school ranks will have a lot of coaches in class 4-A shaking in their shoes. He won a lot of games at Southlake and he won most of those games by big margins. Nobody expects this change to happen overnight, but as Todd Dodge gets his system rooted in this sleepy little town, the giant will begin to grow and strengthen. It is only a matter of time before we start hearing about Marble Falls making a deep run in the playoffs.
And then the only thing opposing coaches can utter is “here we go again…”
