While it is early in his tenure at SMU, Chad Morris has ignited a fire upon the hilltop and the team is showing the excitement not only on the practice field, but it is also showing through with their play on the field. While they are only one and three to this point of the season, there have been a ton of positives even within the three losses. Continue readingPlease be sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook
This weekend will be a pivotal weekend in the Big XII as there are two match-ups between ranked teams and one match up of two teams poised to make the playoffs. These two games could have a big bearing on the conference race as well as the playoff race.Twitter and Facebook
Last week during the NBA draft, Commissioner Adam Silver stopped and did something very classy and solidified his presence as Commissioner. He stopped the draft in between picks number 15 and 16 and had a very nice speech about Baylor Center Isaiah Austin, who recently just had to put the brakes on his basketball career because of a disease called Marfan syndrome.
It is ashamed to see this kid have to give up his dream after he already had to fight a detached retina early on in his life to be able to make it as far as he has come. But with anything else, the most unfair things happen to people who seem to not deserve them.
But for Austin, he was able to go and be part of the NBA draft and Adam Silver went out of his way to give Austin his ceremonial draft pick. While it is unknown what will happen to Austin from here on out, it is a sure thing he will never play in the NBA, but some would hope, maybe a team will take a chance to bring him in as a scout or even as a front office assistant and at least give the kid a chance to be around the NBA.
No matter what happens going forward, you have to tip your cap to the NBA for such a classy move and Adam Silver has done nothing but endear himself to the players and fans. He has more respect going forward now, than he did the day he took over for David Stern. Kudos to you Mr. Silver. Please be sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook
The Baylor Bears are coming off one of their most successful seasons in school history, they are the defending Big XII champions, and they played in their first BCS bowl. Needless to say expectations will be very high in 2014 from a fan base who is learning what it is like to have a winning program. But I think the bigger expectations will be from head coach Art Briles because this team looks to have reloaded and wants to prove last year was not a fluke.Twitter and Facebook
When Art Briles left Houston in 2007 to take over Baylor, everybody said it would be a mistake and career suicide, because nobody had been able to win successfully at Baylor since the 80’s. But Briles didn’t listen to the detractors and he took the Baylor job in 2008. While it wasn’t easy in the early go, he has since turned things around immensely and brought Baylor back into national prominence after a long hiatus, which some thought would never end.
