On Saturday afternoon in Dallasthe Mustangs will have a chance to avenge their loss of last years Conference USAchampionship game at the hands of the Golden Knights. While this game will not have as much on the line, it is still a conference showdown, and a chance to build on an upset win over 20th ranked TCU. The Mustangs are coming into this game riding a four game win streak and are hoping to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday with another victory over a conference foe.

In the four years since June Jones took over as head coach of the Mustangs, the Hilltop has seen a steady build of success and this team is coming off of back to back Conference USA West division championships, their eyes are set on the prize of winning the conference title out right. A win in this game would give them the momentum to keep rolling towards their ultimate goal. ButCentral Floridais a tough opponent with a top ten defense in both passing and rushing. Central Florida on the other hand snapped a two game losing streak last week and hope to start a winning streak inDallason Saturday and try to earn their way back to the championship game and have another chance to hoist the banner for ConferenceUSA.

The series is a young one between these two schools andCentral Floridahas won the previous 3 meetings between the two schools, but this is not the same SMU team from the previous meetings. June Jones is starting to do some special things with this team and there is building excitement about what he can do with his team. The weather is expected to be perfect on Saturday afternoon and the football will exceptional in Ford Stadium. This game could be a preview of another championship game, but one thing is certain, the winner of this game will get a leg up on the conference race and be a front runner for the Conference USA title. Both teams still have tough roads to get to the championship, but a win on Saturday will make that road easier heading forward.

This will be a game to watch if you are a fan of experienced coaches who know how to build winning teams. Both George O’Leary and June Jones have made their careers building programs into winners and these two crusty veteran coaches will be working a chess match during the game. It will be fun to watch and be even more fun to see how the game evolves with two great minds going to battle. I will be sitting in the press box during the game, so please be sure to follow me on twitter for in game updates and analysis.
