Rock Chalk Shaka

Head coach Shaka Smart has done what was thought unthinkable at the start of the tournament. He has lead the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams to its first Final Four in school history. At the start of the tournament, experts like Jay Bilas said that the VCU Rams shouldn’t even be in the tournament and today they have punched their ticket to Houston, site of this year’s Final Four.

The road to the Final Four hasn’t been an easy one for the VCU Rams, they have had to beat teams liked Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State, and now Kansas. Every year there is the Cinderella stories that everyone likes to root for, and this year that story is Shaka Smart and the job he has done taking the VCU Rams out of the Colonial Athletic Association into the NCAA Tournament and continued to win all the way into the Final Four.

While the odds of a team like VCU winning it all is very slim, it is proven that anything can happen during March Madness. All you have to do is be there and take advantage of opportunity to prove yourself against the remaining teams. They will now face Butler in the Regional semifinal for the right to play for the National Championship. VCU is playing with confidence and is fearless of any opponent they face.

    • It has been one of the most exciting tournaments. When there are so many unknowns about the tournament, then it makes it more fun to watch. I would love to see Butler or VCU win it all.

    • What a great blog Kody. Best tournament I remember. This has been a ton of fun. Love to root for the underdogs. What a year for that. At least one of them will make the big game. Love it.

  2. You wouldn’t believe how long ive been looking for something like this. Scrolled through 9 pages of Google results couldn’t find diddly squat. First page of Bing. There you are!… Really gotta start using that more often

  3. My wife and I had never heard of Virginia Commonwealth University prior to this, however their basketball team kicks butt! They did just what many folks considered as unthinkable as a result of pounding the number one rated basketball team in the usa, Kansas. Comparable to Butler before them, VCU took charge against a superior ranked basketball team and when the final buzzer sounded ; they were the victors of the biggest upset in the 2011 NCAA tournament until now.
