Rangers-Rays Series Recap

Texas RangersThe Texas Rangers embarked on their first road series of the season. They start the road schedule of their season in Tampa Bay against the Rays. The Rangers and Rays have become very familiar with each other over the last few years with numerous series played against each other in the post season. While this isn’t the post season, this will just add another chapter to the history between the two teams.

4/4-Odirizzi vs. Saunders:Rays 8 – Rangers 1 – The Rangers had to throw out another pitcher who may not have been in the rotation if everyone was healthy. But the Rangers got a decent start from Saunders, but he had to leave the game after taking a line drive off the foot. Unfortunately for the Rangers the Rays offense was on point and they were able to plate 8 runs while the Rangers couldn’t get anything going.

  • Fielder 2-4, 1 RBI

4/5-Martinez vs. Price:Rays 5 – Rangers 4 – Nick Martinez made his Major League Debut for the Rangers and had a decent start pitching six innings and only allowing three earned runs. The Rangers had a four to one lead at one point, but then the Rays offense woke up and made it a close game. The Rays ended up taking the lead late in the game and would win the game five to four. Another tough loss on the road for the Rangers, but help looks to be coming soon for the ailing pitching staff.

  • Andrus 3-4, 1 RBI
  • Wilson 3-4

4/6-Darvish vs. Cobb:Rangers 3 – Rays 0 – The Rangers got some good news having Yu Darvish make his first start of the season against the Rays on Sunday, and he quickly returned to form from last season becoming the fastest pitcher to hit 500 strikeouts. But the Rays were not going to go quietly and the game was held scoreless until the 8th inning when Elvis Andrus belted a two run home run. Donnie Murphy drove in a run in the 9th which wasn’t needed because Soria came in for the save and shut down the Rays.

  • Andrus 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 HR
  • Murphy 2-4, 1 RBI

  2. From a Rays fan’s perspective, the team did pretty well, taking two out of three from their nemesis.

I was impressed with Odorizzi in his first start as the number five guy in this rotation.

Either way, I have a feeling both these teams will be in contention late.

    • Seems like both these teams find a way to meet in the post season, if the Rangers Rotation can get in line and the bats wake up, could be another post season meeting for these two.
