North Texas Hoping for a chance to Dance

Tonight at 6pm on ESPN 2 the North Texas Mean Green will be playing the Western Kentucky Hill toppers in the Sun Belt Conference Championship. While winning a conference championship will be a great feat, it will be the added bonus of a ticket to the NCAA tournament that is the biggest prize dangling for tonight’s game.

This will be the second meeting between Western Kentucky and North Texas this season. The previous meeting was won by North Texas 84-67 back on January 12th. That win over Western Kentucky was the 3rd in the last 4 meetings between the two schools. To say that North Texas would like to make it 4 out of 5 tonight is an understatement. But I think Johnny Jones and this group of players want to punch a ticket to the “Big Dance” for the 3rd time since 2007.

A chance to be back in to the tournament is great publicity for a school like North Texas. With players like Tony Mitchell and Jacob Holmen who are exciting to watch and can score points at a rapid pace, then the Mean Green should feel good about their chances tonight. Hopefully the pressure won’t be too much for the youthful North Texas Team, but with a coach like Johnny Jones, he will have them ready to play.
