The ULM Warhawks did something on Saturday that seemed highly improbable and ended up being the story of the second weekend of college football. They were able to go into Arkansas and beat the eighth ranked Razorbacks at home. While LA-Monroe was able to strike first, they were forced to be in comeback mode for the rest of the game, and after Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson got hurt, the War hawks were able to catch some momentum and make it a tight game and eventually force overtime.
It was in overtime where the Warhawks were able to win the game on a 4th and 1 play by quarterback Kolton Browning, where he ran into the end zone for the 34-31 upset of the Razorbacks. Browing had a career night where he went 42 of 68 for 412 yards passing and also carried the ball 15 times for 76 yards. He took the team on his back and led them to victory for the first time over the Razorbacks in 10 games, and led the Warhawks to their first win over a ranked opponent.
While this isn’t the first time the Warhawks have beat an SEC team, it is the first ranked one they have been able to beat. They now get ready to play at Auburn and there are some that think they can win back to back games over SEC opponents. Either way, the Warhawks are becoming an SEC killer and can probably forget about anymore “Payday games”. To put a new twist on something Wisconsin coach Brett Beilima said last year, Saturday Night was a great night to be a war hawk.
