Early Look at Texas Longhorns 2014 Schedule

Texas LonghornsThe Texas Longhorns are going into 2014 with some big changes and a new coaching staff. But one thing remains consistent on the 40 Acres, there will be big expectations and a demand to win often and early from the fan base. While the Longhorns said goodbye to Mack Brown at the end of last season, it was a change which needed to be made and there is still the expectation to win because the team had not fallen into the gutter.

While Coach Strong will be adjusting into the new job, he has no real-time to adjust to the change from Louisville because he will be facing an early schedule which includes BYU and UCLA. Then he has to take on Baylor and Oklahoma back to back to enter Big 12 play.

The first true road test won’t come until late October when the Longhorns travel to Manhattan, Kansas to play Kansas State. But they will also make trips to Lubbock and Stillwater, which are two tough places to play and especially tough for the Longhorns.

With a new coaching staff and some questions at key positions this could be a transition year for the Longhorns, and most fans will hate to hear that because it will be “Big XII champs or bust” from most of the fans. But to realistically look at the competition, the Big XII is going to be tougher this year than it has been in the past few years.

If the Longhorns can win around seven to eight games and get a decent bowl bid, then it would be a great season for Strong and the Longhorns. Anything over seven wins should really be a happy surprise because this schedule is going to be tough, but they have most of their toughest games at home. But it will be the beginning of another upturn for the Longhorns under Charlie Strong.

  1. Hook ’em Horns. Hope the new coach and system will work. Sad they have become an average team. I think the changes are good and hope to see them turn it around.
