Most schools have come out and announced their 2014 schedules for the upcoming football season and the TCU Horned Frogs are part of that group. They released their schedule and I took some time to look it over and gather my thoughts.
While TCU will be entering their third season in the Big XII conference, they will look to improve on a down year last year. While most experts won’t pick TCU to win the conference, you would be mistaken not to keep an eye on them as a potential dark horse.
Gary Patterson has a track record of getting more out of less than most coaches have a tendency of getting the best out of the best. The early part of the TCU schedule sets up pretty nice with Samford and Minnesota at home. While Minnesota won’t be a cake walk game, it should be a nice match up for the Horned Frogs. Then the Frogs will travel down I-30 to Dallas to play their annual “Iron Skillet” game against rival SMU. This will be their first real road test of 2014 and could either give them momentum going into the conference slate or knock them down and cause some trepidation before opening conference play.
Unfortunately for TCU it looks like most of their toughest games will be on the road this year, but they do have Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Kansas State at home, which could help the frogs win some games nobody will have them being competitive in. While Road games at Baylor, West Virginia and Texas could keep the Frogs from finding a groove and winning some tough games.
obviously nobody will know how the season plays out until it begins, but looking at the schedule, I figure Gary Patterson will have the Frogs back in their winning ways and they could be looking at a good bowl by the end of the season. If I had to put a number on it I would have to say this could be an eight or nine win season
I will have a more in-depth preview once we get closer to fall practice and know more about possible depth charts.
