I am sure most of you are noticing changes with the site right now. I have had to make some changes with how my site was being Hosted and trying to take more control over my site as a whole. Please bear with me while I am working through the kinks, I hope you will enjoy the changes and continue to visit Kody’s Sports Korner.
Just wanted to take a moment and wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. While you are enjoying your day with a cold beverage and time spent in front of the grill. Take a moment to reflect on what this holiday means and be thankful for the freedoms we have today because of the sacrifice of so many. Also, enjoy some baseball if you get a chance, because it is the American pastime. Have a save any Happy 4th!Please be sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook
I was actually blown away when I found I was placed in the BallHyped 2011 Sports Blogger of the Year contest. I am a one man band with a computer and lots of thoughts in my head. No office, no employees, no help. First of all I love blogging and really enjoy my relationships with other bloggers. BallHyped is a great site and putting on this contest is a great idea.
I was in the top sixty four chosen to be in the contest and I considered that to be an honor in and of itself. Then I won the first round and was actually blown away to still be there. We then went to the round of 32, then the round of the sweet sixteen and I was still there. Suddenly I was awe struck. I had a grass roots effort going. All I could assume was the people who read my blog, my family and my friends were all working to get votes for me. I felt so blessed to be included in this group. At this point I realized how fortunate I was to still be in the competition.
When my blog made it through to the elite eight I was floored. Again I was blessed. Then there I was the in the final four. Wow. How did I get there? I have worked hard at learning to blog. My Dad always says “the harder you work the luckier you get”. A lot of people have given me encouragement, but to be in the final four just blew my mind. When my blog won this one and made it to the finals I could just not get my mind around it. What a blessing.
Even though I did not win, I feel so fortunate to have experienced all of this. Thanks to BallHyped for putting me in there. Thanks to all of you who read my blog and voted for me. Thanks to my family and friends for all their hard work to help me obtain votes. I feel humbled and a sense of deep appreciation that so many people cared.
Last but not least I felt honored to go up against a top flight experienced blogger in Sportschump.net. No wonder he trounced me in the finals. He had a well oiled machine and I congratulate him for his win. Wow, what a finish he had. I am honored to have been there and for the votes I received in the finals. What an experience for me.
Being number two ain’t all bad. I learned a lot, made a lot of new friends, realized you don’t have to win to feel successful in life and feel most fortunate to be the number two blogger in the contest.
Again…thanks to all of you for your votes and support. I look forward with great anticipation to 2012. I have joined the Football Writers Assn. I am a welcome guest in the press box at several major universities and have even picked up some sponsors. I also do featured blogs for BevoBall.com and also Sports Page Network. What a finish this was for me. From Kodyssportscorner.com. Happy New Year to all of you.

Here we are at the end of another year which sometimes seemed to fly by. It seems sometimes others seemed to drag. There were amazing moments in sports, and some tragic losses along the way. However this year, I am not going to rehash every single story that was news worthy throughout the year. You can go back and re-read stories in the archive portion of my site.
Instead, today I want to take a moment to reflect on some amazing moments this year for me and my blog. Being just a one man show… and a small time blog in the grand scheme of things; I figured I would spend the year on my couch, laptop in front of me writing about what I am watching. But being someone who likes to take risks, I decided to try and request press credentials for some college games locally.
Right off the bat I was denied by TCU, but within a day or two I was approved for games at North Texas and SMU. First week of the season I was in the press box at UNT and what an amazing feeling it was. I couldn’t believe my luck, sitting there and going through the game from an almost unattainable place. The next few weeks caught me going down to SMU a couple times and back to UNT once more during the football season. Then, right as bowl games were being announced, I decided to try for press credentials at couple of those.
I got approvals to all three requests I sent. The Armed Forces Bowl, The Ticket City Bowl and the FCS championship game all gave me press approvals. I just completed my day at the Armed Forces bowl, and will now begin the sprint to the Ticket City bowl. Due to taking a few risks and not minding hearing “no” I am one of the fortunate few “living my dream”. I can hardly believe my good fortune this year. One thing I did learn; if you don’t ask you will never know. The second thought is the harder you work, the luckier you get.
If 2011 was this good, then I am hoping to grow by leaps and bounds in 2012. Aside from the credentials and all the positive happenings on the blog, I was also invited to start writing for BevoBall.com. This site features all sports at University of Texas. Being invited to write for a site without any request on my part made me feel amazing. To top it all off, last week I found out I was selected and placed in the Ballhyped Blogger of the year tournament. They have over 500 bloggers and chose a field of 64 to go through the single elimination tournament for blogger of the year. Today I have survived through the single elimination and am in the Final Four. It is taking place as I write this. Needless to say I am humbled by the honor. If it were not for all of you voting for me throughout the various rounds I would not have made the final four. I’ll know tonight if I make the finals. Please continue to vote for me tomorrow in the finals if I make the cut.
Since today is the last day of the year, I have made a few extra moves today to start making big waves in 2012 for Kodys Sports Korner. I have applied for membership in the Football Writers Association of America and I have signed up with the Yahoo contributor network. Hopefully these two moves will give me a boost in 2012. I can sum up this year in one simple thought. If you try for it, and fight for it, then you can live your dream. I have done that this year and will continue doing so next year.
If you have a dream, go after it. You have to be dedicated, tenacious and determined. You need to learn when to hold them and when to fold them. Like my mom always says, “life is like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end the quicker it goes.”
Happy New Year everyone! May 2012, be as good for you as I plan to make it for me. Thanks for your loyalty to my blog. Stay tuned, there is more to come….
