Adidas just recently release their new “March into madness” uniforms for the upcoming NCAA post season tournament. One of the teams chosen to wear one of the new uniforms is the Baylor Bears, who have become the “Oregon” of the south with all their basketball uniform combinations. While there are a lot of fans out there who seem to love this “uniform idiocy”, I am not one of them, while there are some of these new combinations that look good, over all it is just a stupid money grab by the manufacturers and the schools.
The New School Morning show on The Fan in Dallas has struck again with their weekly bit called “Yo Roger Raps”. This week they brought in North Texas head coach Dan McCarney to try his hand after the wildly successful bit from Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury last week. There are probably a lot of things more entertaining than hearing local celebrities try to do a rap bit on a morning show, but add in the fact you have football coaches who are usually not known for doing a lot in the way of fun, this is becoming more entertaining week after week. Could you imagine if they find a way to bring in someone like Les Miles, or Nick Saban?
But this week it was Dan McCarney who put his “skills” to the test. The song he did was not really a rap song, but the sound bite is pure gold. He made the request play something from his generation and you can easily say that he has no future as a singer, but he made it fun and sounded like he had a blast. This will be something his players will not let him live down, but they will probably have more respect for him after this. It will be interesting to see if they keep up this routine of coaches coming in and doing this bit.
Here is the link if you want to hear Dan McCarney sing.
It is being reported North Texas Mean Green head coach Dan McCarney will be receiving an extension through the 2018 season. This is a great move by the university because North Texas just finished off a very successful 9-4 season which was capped off by a victory in the Heart of Dallas bowl on New Year’s Day. It has only been three years since Dan McCarney took over the Mean Green, but under him the team has seen a remarkable improvement on the field and in home attendance. Even though McCarney is only 18-19 in his three seasons in Denton, it is a huge improvement from the 13-58 record they had before him. Continue reading
SMU head coach Larry Brown has been named a Henry Iba National coach of the year finalist by the basketball writers association. He has stormed onto the hilltop and turned the Mustangs from pretenders into contenders. Under Larry Brown the Mustangs have gotten ranked for the first time since the 1984-85 season and are currently undefeated at home. While some people thought this was just a pre-retirement money grab from Brown, he has proven all of his naysayers wrong with this turn around. Not only has he gotten the Mustangs ranked for the first time in a long time, Brown has also led the Mustangs in victories over four ranked opponents for the first time since 1955-56. Coach Kliff Kingsbury has become the most popular name and coach in all of college football. He is popular with recruits as well as coeds, but he doesn’t make a big fuss and he hasn’t been out making headlines. So imagine my surprise when his name came up on local radio show New School with Shan and RJ. They do a bid called “Yo Roger Raps” and they bring in local celebrities to put their take on rap songs. Now you can imagine how horrible some of them can be, and some are surprisingly good. Continue reading
