Building on the Brazos; Baylor 2012 Preview

The Baylor Bears are coming off one of their most successful seasons ever under the their first Heisman winner Robert Griffin III and head coach Art Briles. The Bears have also gone to back to back bowl games for the first time in a very long time, winning for the first time since 1994. Even though they lose quarterback “RGIII” and receiver Kendal Wright, the Bears will still field a good team and will probably be in the hunt for another bowl berth this season. But don’t expect another 10 win season, last year was a special season and probably won’t be repeated this season.

Even though the Bears lose the most explosive and exciting player in all of college football this year, they will still have quality leadership in the Quarterback position. Senior Quarterback Nick Florence looks to take over and make his mark with the Bears this season. Even though he will have some mighty shoes to fill, he will have some help with a running back by committee which should be lead by sophomore Lache Seastrunk and Senior leadership from receivers Terrance Williams and Lanear Sampson. The offensive line will be weaker this year, just simply because they won’t have Griffin behind them making plays when the blitz makes it through.

The defense will be the most experienced group on the field and will look to help Baylor squeak out a few extra wins. The Defense will need to stand tall as they go through the Big XII season. The Linebackers and Secondary will be the most experienced groups on the defense returning both units almost as a whole. Expect Baylor to be in position to upset a few teams throughout the season and they will probably win one or two of those surprise games. Because Art Briles has built  something special on the Brazos and he may be on the cusp of having Baylor out of the basement and have the Bears become a respectable opponent in the Big XII.

The Baylor bears will be able to win enough games to be in position to go to their 3rd straight bowl game and will probably have a good enough team to win back to back bowl games also.
