Aggies eyeing SEC and National title in 2013
Before I get started, let me first say that I am now eating a big ole helping of crow after the season the Aggies had. I was on the bandwagon with many people saying they would get embarrassed, and joining the SEC was just plain laughable. Well, The Aggies proved me wrong this year, they had an amazing season and gave us one of the most exciting players in all of college football.
After surprisingly destroying the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl, there is a lot to be said about this Texas A&M squad. All of it is good and it is scary to think a big portion of their roster will be returning in 2013, more experienced and hungrier than this year. The Aggies are only losing 18 players off their roster to graduation, don’t know if any juniors will apply for the draft, but that still leaves a lot of talent back for next season, and the biggest piece of all, Johnny Manziel is returning for his sophomore year. Let that sink in for a minute…he is only a sophomore!
After going 11-2(6-2) in their first season in the SEC and probably being one or two plays from another win and potential chance to have a shot at the SEC crown, they don’t have a lot of room for improvement going into 2013 except to win the SEC and possibly be in line for a National Title. Which can be a very attainable task with the amount of talent returning, plus looking at their schedule, it is mostly favorable.
Aggies 2013 schedule
- Sam Houston State
- @ Arkansas
- @ Ole Miss
- Mississippi State
- @ LSU
- @ Missouri
Four road games, two road, four home, two road is how the season breaks down for the Aggies and most of their toughest games are at
home, the only real road game that could be tough is at LSU. But that doesn’t mean the Aggies can rest and expect season number two to be easier. This year they surprised everyone, next year they will have a target on their backs. Losing coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will hurt, Johnny Manziel will also have a tougher year because everyone will know what he is capable of and be ready to key in on him.
Going into 2013, I would put them as one of the early favorites to compete and possibly win the conference. But don’t count them out for a National Championship hunt either. The Aggies are beginning to prove they are the best team in Texas right now, and possibly one of the best in the country.
Whether you are a fan or not, it will be exciting to see what they can do going forward and it will be fun to see if Manziel can capture a 2nd Heisman trophy.
