2011 Year in Review

Here we are at the end of another year which sometimes seemed to fly by. It seems sometimes others seemed to drag. There were amazing moments in sports, and some tragic losses along the way. However this year, I am not going to rehash every single story that was news worthy throughout the year. You can go back and re-read stories in the archive portion of my site.

Instead, today I want to take a moment to reflect on some amazing moments this year for me and my blog. Being just a one man show… and a small time blog in the grand scheme of things; I figured I would spend the year on my couch, laptop in front of me writing about what I am watching. But being someone who likes to take risks, I decided to try and request press credentials for some college games locally.

Right off the bat I was denied by TCU, but within a day or two I was approved for games at North Texas and SMU. First week of the season I was in the press box at UNT and what an amazing feeling it was. I couldn’t believe my luck, sitting there and going through the game from an almost unattainable place. The next few weeks caught me going down to SMU a couple times and back to UNT once more during the football season. Then, right as bowl games were being announced, I decided to try for press credentials at couple of those.

I got approvals to all three requests I sent. The Armed Forces Bowl, The Ticket City Bowl and the FCS championship game all gave me press approvals. I just completed my day at the Armed Forces bowl, and will now begin the sprint to the Ticket City bowl. Due to taking a few risks and not minding hearing “no” I am one of the fortunate few “living my dream”. I can hardly believe my good fortune this year. One thing I did learn; if you don’t ask you will never know. The second thought is the harder you work, the luckier you get.

If 2011 was this good, then I am hoping to grow by leaps and bounds in 2012. Aside from the credentials and all the positive happenings on the blog, I was also invited to start writing for BevoBall.com. This site features all sports at University of Texas. Being invited to write for a site without any request on my part made me feel amazing. To top it all off, last week I found out I was selected and placed in the Ballhyped Blogger of the year tournament. They have over 500 bloggers and chose a field of 64 to go through the single elimination tournament for blogger of the year. Today I have survived through the single elimination and am in the Final Four. It is taking place as I write this. Needless to say I am humbled by the honor. If it were not for all of you voting for me throughout the various rounds I would not have made the final four. I’ll know tonight if I make the finals. Please continue to vote for me tomorrow in the finals if I make the cut.

Since today is the last day of the year, I have made a few extra moves today to start making big waves in 2012 for Kodys Sports Korner. I have applied for membership in the Football Writers Association of America and I have signed up with the Yahoo contributor network. Hopefully these two moves will give me a boost in 2012. I can sum up this year in one simple thought. If you try for it, and fight for it, then you can live your dream. I have done that this year and will continue doing so next year.

If you have a dream, go after it. You have to be dedicated, tenacious and determined. You need to learn when to hold them and when to fold them. Like my mom always says, “life is like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end the quicker it goes.”

Happy New Year everyone! May 2012, be as good for you as I plan to make it for me. Thanks for your loyalty to my blog. Stay tuned, there is more to come….
